'Avengers: Endgame' New Trailer Confirms They Split Up to Fight Thanos
No mistakes and no do-overs. This is it. Avengers: Endgame is almost here, and a new 30-second trailer reveals new details about the Avengers’ plan to defeat Thanos. While the specifics aren’t revealed, the trailer confirms that the Avengers will split up into teams, once again, to strike back at Thanos.
On Thursday, Marvel released a new TV spot for Avengers: Endgame. The 30-second teaser includes some new footage, notably of Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) complimenting Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) uncanny ability to inspire people around him with a rousing speech. “He’s pretty good at that,” Rocket quips, to which Ant-Man responds, “Right?!”
But it’s Steve’s exact words that are the most telling about how the Avengers plan to defeat Thanos: “You know your teams. You know your missions. No mistakes. No do-overs. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives.”
While it’s just plain smart for the Avengers to split up to divide and conquer than to bum-rush Thanos all together like Leroy Jenkins (“LEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOY…..”), from a storytelling perspective, the division means we might see a plot structure akin to Avengers: Infinity War, which also had clusters of characters divvied up who intersected at various points.
But perhaps the split won’t be for too long. While Endgame is dealing with (almost literally) half as many characters from the start, whatever plan the Avengers come up with will presumably include the revival of all the dead heroes. Because how else will Spider-Man star in Spider-Man: Far From Home in July?
There’s not much else that’s new in the trailer, which recycles some footage we’ve seen in previous marketing materials. Though it does contain a bit of an interesting character moment where Steve Rogers, who has never been up in space, holds on for dear life while riding in the Guardians’ ship just before making a jump to lightspeed. Never forget that Steve Rogers was just a kid from Brooklyn in 1943 who woke up in a totally different world.
Poor Steve.
At the end of the trailer, the Avengers group up and join fists in a circle in a totally cool way that doesn’t at all resemble that time 10 Red Rangers teamed up in a crossover episode of Power Rangers.
The wait for Avengers: Endgame has been long, but maybe not as long as the actual film’s runtime. You really should take care of your business before the movie begins, because the film has a ridiculous runtime with no intermissions. This is the fate of the world, man. You can’t pause it for your bladder.
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters on April 26.
