'Last Jedi' Deleted Scene Fixes One Plot Hole You Forgot About
Somehow, no one remembered this. But Rian Johnson did.
Everyone forgot to ask how Finn’s jacket (or Poe’s jacket) got fixed after Kylo Ren sliced Finn in the back with a lightsaber in The Force Awakens. But now, one deleted scene from The Last Jedi explains a plot hole involving a hole in some space clothing. Admit it, you forgot about this. Luckily, Rian Johnson didn’t, and he even threw in a few nods to The Empire Strikes Back in this scene, too.
On Tuesday, the digital download of The Last Jedi was released on multiple platforms, including iTunes and Amazon Video. And one of the 14 deleted scenes explains that Poe found the time to hastily stitch up the famous jacket sometime in between the destruction of Starkiller Base and the evacuation of the Resistance headquarters. The scene is called “Poe: Not Much of a Sewer” and features some pretty gnarly looking space stitches Poe added to fix the jacket he gifted to Finn in The Force Awakens. It’s almost like through the power of their bromance, Poe managed to fix Finn’s injuries, too! Keep in mind, this is probably the first time a Star Wars movie has directly addressed the concept of a tailor, even an impromptu one like Poe. Are there stitches specifically for a cut from a lightsaber blade?

The scene also features a bunch of other Resistance soldiers briskly walking in between Finn and Poe in the hallway. In his commentary, Johnson says he took inspiration from The Empire Strikes Back, where extras at the Rebel base are constantly walking between Han and Leia.
“I like the extras going in between,” Johnson said. “I actually looked at Empire, and in the hallways of Hoth it’s something they did quite a lot.”
The scene also serves as a way for Finn to get caught up to speed on what has happened since he’s been in a coma, which, really, hasn’t been all that long. Like the alternate opening, this scene makes the beginning of the The Last Jedi feel way more Finn-centric than the final theatrical cut of the film.
The Last Jedi is out on digital download now and will be released on a physical Blu-ray and DVD on March 27.
