Akon to Smack Africa With That Solar Energy

The rapper is powering up 600 million in rural viillages.

Rap star Akon, who has just finished other things, has turned his attention from making club pop to producing solar energy for over 600 million people in rural Africa.

Smack that.

At this year's Sustainable Energy for All Forum at the United Nations, Akon and his charity Akon Lighting Africa announced they will be establishing a "Solar Academy" in Mali.

Smack that.

The academy hopes to produce graduates who can engineer solar power for rural villages across the continent.

Smack that.

Akon Lighting Africa co-founder Samba Baithily told Reuters, “We have the sun and innovative technologies to bring electricity to homes and communities. We now need to consolidate African expertise.”

Smack that, oooh-ohhh.
