'A Quiet Place 2': Everything We Know About the Rumored Sequel
John Krasinski is "definitely involved."
Since the release of John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place in April to critical fanfare, rumors of a sequel to the monster horror flick have been relentless. And, while no film is confirmed to currently be underway, one thing is certain: It won’t be rushed.
The film’s ending leaves it wide open for a natural follow-up but also raises several questions about how its filmmakers plan to continue the narrative. Will it follow the same family? Will A Quiet Place 2 widen the lens on its own cinematic universe? Perhaps most importantly, what exactly will Krasinski’s involvement look like if he returns?

John Krasinski Is “Definitely Involved” in A Quiet Place 2
Specifically as it pertains to the film’s director and star, Krasinski’s involvement is reportedly confirmed, though in what capacity will likely remain a mystery until just before its release. (Fans of the film needn’t be reminded that Lee Abbott is presumably dead after appearing to sacrifice himself to save his children.)
A Quiet Place producer Andrew Form confirmed Krasinski’s continued involvement with the rumored franchise in an interview with Collider’s Adam Chitwood published Friday:
Oh [Krasinski is] definitely involved. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, “Here’s your date. Let’s go!” and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s [sic] gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.
This is likely great news for fans of A Quiet Place, which all but flipped the genre on its head with its subtle, silent horrors. Carrying that over into the franchise’s next project will be paramount to its success, and Krasinski is no doubt the biggest piece of that continuity puzzle.

A Quiet Place Writers Already Have Ideas for the Sequel
Speaking with Movie Web in April, A Quiet Place screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods said they already have ideas for the film’s follow-up. Beck said at the time that the duo even had “some of the set pieces already written for it.”
In a sense, that’s what you have to base it around. You have to figure out, what is the worst possible situation to put your characters in and go from there.
Woods added that the pair had “so many scary ideas that just didn’t even make it into the final script, let alone the final movie,” some of which Woods said were too expensive to include in the original, a problem that likely won’t be an issue for its successor. It’s possible the team will pull from that pool of ideas for a sequel as well.
A Quiet Place 2 and the Cloverfield Universe
Since the earliest appearances of the film’s alien monsters — which actually got a last-minute design change prior to the film’s release — fans immediately began drawing parallels to those of the Cloverfield cinematic universe.
Beck confirmed to Slash Film in April that the filmmakers had indeed approached Paramount about a potential crossover, but Paramount ultimately decided the film should stand on its own.
That was one of those things that, I guess it crossed our mind and we had spoken to our representatives about that possibility. It was weird timing, though, because when we were writing the script, 10 Cloverfield Lane was at Paramount. We were actually talking to an executive there about this film, and it felt from pitch form that there might be crossover, but when we finally took the final script in to Paramount, they saw it as a totally different movie. What was really incredible about the process that we feel very grateful for is the studio embraced this weird movie with no dialogue with open arms. They never thought about branding it as a Cloverfield film, I think in part because conceptually it was able to stand on its own.
Speaking to Movie Web, Beck hinted that any number of universes could set the stage for A Quiet Place 2, adding that there are “multiple universes that it could go in to be completely honest.”
Does that mean a franchise crossover is possible? Maybe. It’s certainly been done before. Then again, A Quiet Place proved to be its own unique brand of horror, and that may be worth carrying over for any future films as well.
