Netflix Announces The Last Jedi Air Date: June 26

This is going to go exactly the way you think: On your couch, possibly tipsy, watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi over and over again. That’s because the latest chapter in the sci-fi saga will begin streaming on Netflix in June, joining other films like Thor: Ragnarok as well as older classics like The Departed and, um, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. It’s going to be a fun summer.

On Wednesday, Netflix unveiled its June 2018 release calendar. In addition to the return of Netflix shows like GLOW, Voltron Legendary Defender, and Marvel’s Luke Cage, the streaming giant will have Star Wars: The Last Jedi starting on June 26.

The Rian Johnson-directed chapter will join other Star Wars properties on Netflix, including 2016’s Rogue One, 2008’s The Clone Wars, and all six seasons of The Clone Wars series that aired on Cartoon Network.

If that isn’t enough Star Wars for you, Netflix also has two documentaries available to watch: I Am Your Father and Elstree 1976 from 2015, which explore different facets behind the Star Wars phenomenon.

Though it has a whopping 91 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has inspired some of the most heated debates among Star Wars fans. It’s a divisive presence the fandom have not felt since…

Lucasfilm

Sorry. Anyway, fans remain have gone to war over The Last Jedi, a film that subverts 40 years of mythology at every turn but remains slavish to the texts George Lucas mined from when he made his original trilogy decades ago. (The ghosts of Akira Kurosawa and Flash Gordon are everywhere in The Last Jedi.)

Naturally, any story that doesn’t do The Things That I Like will generate criticism, some of it deserved and some of it not. But you can decide for yourself when The Last Jedi is made available on the one app that’s practically in every Roku and PlayStation in existence.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will begin streaming on Netflix on June 26.
