'Agents of SHIELD' Season 5 Hits Netflix Very Soon, in June

In the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel fans eager to keep up Marvel Cinematic Universe will be able to binge the latest season of the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. very soon. The bombastic fifth season of the first big Marvel TV series will come to Netflix in June.

On Tuesday, Decider reported that all 22 episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 will start streaming on Netflix on Sunday, June 17. The season recently aired its finale on May 18. Timed with the events of Infinity War, the critically-acclaimed season of S.H.I.E.L.D. takes place adjacent to the Avengers’ efforts to stop Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones.

In spite of the show’s continued popularity with fans, evidenced by buzz on social media, cancellation seemed imminent when ABC kept its renewal close to the chest before renewing the show for a shortened sixth season. The next season will air with 13 episodes, half the usual order, in the summer of 2019. This means Season 6 will likely take place after Avengers 4, which will probably leave an even greater mark on the MCU than Infinity War did.

The series first aired in the fall of 2013, anchored by Clark Gregg reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson from 2008’s Iron Man, 2011’s Thor, and 2012’s The Avengers. Gregg will reprise his role again, in next year’s Captain Marvel.

A few years later after S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered, the first Marvel shows popped up on Netflix, with Daredevil airing in the spring of 2015 and Jessica Jones airing that fall. In 2017, Marvel’s Inhumans aired as an early season replacement before S.H.I.E.L.D. Inhumans was soon canceled after just one season.
