McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce: When You Can Get 1 of the 20M Packets

McDonald’s announced the date for its Szechuan sauce podcast and now we know when the actual sauce will return.

The fast food company announced that starting February 26, 2018 Szechuan sauce will be available with qualifying purchase. 20 million packets will be available across the United States and waiting for customer while supplies last.

The announcement of the date of the sauce’s return was accompanied by the release of The Sauce, the podcast the explores the “Szechuan saga.” While the sauce was originally made to promote Disney film Mulan decades ago, a joke in the third premiere of Rick and Morty reignited an interest in the condiment. McDonald’s tried to capitalize on the renewed interest with a limited return of the sauce, but when they ran out fans did not react very well. Fans of the cartoon did go as far as rioting because there was no more Szechuan sauce. Shortly after the whirlwind weekend a packet for the sauce from 1998 was sold for $99,000.

The combination of the sauce’s return and the podcast is an effort being made by McDonald’s to make amends. “We disappointed fans and we are sorry. To fully make amends, we felt it was important to not only bring back much more sauce this time, but to also admit our mistakes, answer questions and give fans access to the story behind the story,” the company wrote on the website wewantthesauce.com.

Catherine LeClair will host the podcast as it explores the sauce’s strange journey, which includes EDM DJ Deadmau5 buying a bottle of the sauce for $15,000.

Rick and Morty fans can head to McDonald’s and enjoy the return of Szechuan without any mayhem. Or rioting. Enjoy!
