'Jessica Jones' Season 2 Acts Like 'Defenders' Never Happened

Remember the end of The Defenders, when the four Marvel/Netflix heroes held hands and sang “Kumbaya”? Well that didn’t happen, but one would think Jessica Jones would have changed after teaming with Iron Fist, Daredevil, and Luke Cage. Turns out, nothing’s changed for the hard-drinking P.I. In fact, Jessica is still dealing with her issues in the new Season 2 trailer of her Netflix series, premiering March 8.

In the new trailer for Jessica Jones Season 2, a mash-up of scenes from Season 1 and new footage of Season 2 shows just how messed up Jessica Jones was and still is. Though she’s in group anger management, the therapy sessions aren’t helping Jessica — well, manage her anger. She’s still downing bottles of whiskey and throwing it at the wall like a bouncy ball. Jessica is still Jessica, proving she’s learned nothing since her decision to align with costumed do-gooders who also happen to live in New York City.

It’s almost like the cataclysmic events of The Defenders never happened, which in some ways is a good thing. With no more unnecessary build up to a future crossover, Jessica Jones is free to tell a stronger story that doesn’t need continuity nods or Easter eggs. Sure, there will be plenty of those in the upcoming season, but they should always just be extra. Remember: Iron Man was a solid movie on its own. The Avengers tease was after the credits.

Jessica hasn't changed much, but it seems she learned new ways to kick ass.

The rest of the trailer for Jessica Jones contains flashbacks to her fight with Killgrave (played by David Tennant, who is expected to return in some capacity in Season 2), her brief relationship with Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and her investigation into IGH, which was touched on briefly in both Jessica Jones Season 1 and in The Defenders.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 2 will air March 8 on Netflix.
