Watch Will Smith's 'Bright' on Netflix When It Premieres This Week

Netflix

Fantasy and reality collide in Bright. The new movie, which hits Netflix very, very soon, is set in a crazy reality where orcs, goblins, elves, fairies, and all kinds of creatures from folklore live among contemporary humans. This Tolkien-meets-The Wire action drama stars Will Smith as a tough-as-nails veteran of the LAPD who is partnered with Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), a rookie cop recognized as the first Orcish police officer.

Bright, directed by Suicide Squad director David Ayer and written by Max Landis (Chronicle), will be released on Netflix on December 22. That’s a few short days from now as of this writing — it’s sooner than Christmas! So if you stumble upon this article then, well, have at it.

A gritty, contemporary fantasy like no other, mystical creatures have lived among humans since the beginning of time in Bright. But magic is deemed illegal. That’s when LAPD officer Daryl Ward (Smith) and his partner Jakoby (Edgerton), on a routine patrol night, stumble upon a working magical wand which has the power to change their world as they know it.

Besides Smith and Edgerton, Bright also stars Noomi Rapace, who played Lisbeth in the Swedish adaptations of the Millennium trilogy, as Leilah, a dark elf who wants control of the wand, and Lucy Fry (11.22.63) as Tikka, a young elf who possesses the illegal wand.

Machine Gun Kelly, X Ambassadors and Bebe Rexha’s “Home,” Bastille’s “World Gone Mad”, Logic and Rag’n’Bone Man’s “Broken People,” and Migos and Marshmello’s “Danger” are all available to stream as of December 18.

Bright will begin streaming on Netflix on December 22.
