Predict 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 with Unanimous A.I.

Join our hive-mind experiment to predict who will sit on the Iron Throne.

HBO

First, the bad news: Game of Thrones Season 8 may not air until spring 2019. How different the world will be then! But back in Westeros, things will pick up right where they left off, with that blue-eyed dragon having just used its super hot blue fire to rip a hole in the Wall in the north and Jon Snow having just complicated his family tree.

The final season of the HBO series will answer a lot of questions and hopefully set up a few Game of Thrones spin-offs — if its writers are looking ahead. You, no doubt, have predictions for how the series will end, and we want to hear them via a 15-minute group experiment.

This week, Inverse is partnering with San Francisco technology firm Unanimous A.I. to make a hive-mind prediction, along with other Inverse readers, as to what you think will happen during the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

If you’re a Game of Thrones watcher looking to make your prediction, check “Game of Thrones” on this form and we’ll email you on Tuesday, August 29 with details on how to join. You can also just go to our Inverse Game of Thrones swarm page a few minutes before 4 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday.

Here’s how Unanimous A.I. uses “swarm intelligence” to make scarily accurate predictions:

Swarm intelligence, or the “hive-mind,” is what makes colonies of ants, swarms of bees, and schools of fish capable of performing feats that each individual member can’t even conceive. These animals are not that intelligent on their own, but by working collectively groups of ants can build living bridges, while bees can collaborate to pick a new place to live.

Louis Rosenberg, founder and CEO of Unanimous A.I., looked at these emergent properties and decided to apply them to humans. In 2016, the company correctly predicted the Kentucky Derby superfecta — in the correct order — with its UNU platform. UNU allows humans anywhere in the world to use their computers to weigh in on a question with multiple answers. The company has used this system to correctly predict a number of sporting events and cultural moments, including the Super Bowl, the Oscars, and the World Series.

To take part on Tuesday, here are the details:

  • The Inverse community will predict Game of Thrones Season 8.
  • It’s on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 4 p.m. Eastern.
  • Participants are anonymous and will be asked to make 12 predictions for the season.
  • Please use a desktop computer and Google Chrome.
  • The predictions experiment should last about 15 minutes.

If you’re game, drop your email in this form — we will only use your email to send you the link to the experiment page on the day. If you’d like, feel free to let us know your interests for future prediction experiments, and we’ll reach out.

You can also skip the form (which won’t get you notified of future group experiments) and visit the swarm page directly at 4 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, August 29.
