5 Horror Movies on Netflix You Can Only Stomach Once

The gross, the sad, and the downright terrifying.

Dark Sky Films

What really gets to you? What tropes automatically get an “oh, fuck no” from you when you’re scrolling through Netflix’s horror genre? You might have a pretty wide range of things you can’t stomach, but there are some real gems hiding in Netflix’s treasure trove of horror films. We thought we’d get them together for you.

Some horror films have that one jump scare that gets you every time, or that one shot of skin peeling away from flesh that you can’t stand. The movies on this list each have their own reasons why you’ll only want to watch them once, but each one will stick with you for a while.

From jump scares to weird tear-jerkers, to gross-outs and plenty of body horror, here are five horror films you can currently stream on Netflix that you can only stomach once. If you can watch them more than one time, more power to you.

5. Cujo (1983)

We know Cujo isn’t the most terrifying movie out there, but what makes it so intense is that it’s also incredibly sad, as well as scary. Watching a sweet-natured family pet slowly lose its mind and turn on its owners isn’t something you’re going to want to watch on the regular.

4. The Human Centipede: First Sequence (2009)

Yes, The Human Centipede series is anything but good, but it’s disturbing as hell, and you will only want to watch it once. A doctor takes it upon himself to kidnap people and surgically connect them, ass to mouth, to make — you guessed it — a human centipede. It’s just as gross as it sounds.

3. Honeymoon (2015)

One of two horror films of this name on Netflix, 2015’s Honeymoon comes from Mexico and is originally titled Luna de Miel. A sadistic doctor kidnaps the woman he’s obsessed with and tortures her in his basement, using classic conditioning methods to make her believe she’s his wife.

2. We Are Still Here (2015)

Often claimed as one of the most truly terrifying horror films of 2015, We Are Still Here will, undoubtedly, scare you. Leaning hard into the haunted house trope, the film still manages to approach it from a fresh angle in that it’s actually fucking terrifying unlike other films like it.

1. Starry Eyes (2014)

This, frankly, underrated film about the dangers of stardom is all about body horror. Ritualistic sacrifice, sex, and rotting flesh all play a part by the time it’s over. Without spoiling too much: hair and nails fall out, someone vomits up a stomach full of maggots, and people slip around in pools of blood.
