Apple Spaceship Campus Filmed by 4K Drone, and It Looks Amazing

The building is coming together nicely.

The Apple Park, the official name for the spaceship-shaped building that will eventually become Apple’s new headquarters in Cupertino, is taking shape. The project is close enough to completion that staff are already moving in, but there’s still some extra work to take place before the campus is officially open for business. Matthew Roberts, a YouTuber that has filmed 4K drone flyovers of the campus before, uploaded his latest footage on Thursday that showed some of the key areas that still require work. The footage shows a dramatic improvement when compared to previous video releases.

In the four minute segment, Roberts takes a close look at the Steve Jobs Theater, the Historic Barn and the Visitor Center. The camera also looks at the spaceship-shaped main building itself, a four-story, 2.8-million square foot construction that’s cost the company a staggering $5 billion. Through the atrium windows at the side of main building, construction is still clearly underway.

The campus, which will covers 175 acres, is one of the last Apple projects that had the involvement of Steve Jobs during its development. Jobs presented his vision to the Cupertino City Council back in 2011, where he spoke passionately about the green spaces that would surround the spaceship building. The campus is designed to be eco-friendly: solar panels placed on every roof will provide 75 percent of the campus’ energy source, and the ultimate goal is for the campus to run entirely on renewable energy.

The Steve Jobs Theater, a smaller circular building on the outer side of the spaceship, is named in the former CEO’s honor. The theater will serve as the announcement point for future Apple launches, with Jobs popularizing the company’s presentation style after his return to Apple back in 1997. In the drone footage, work has progressed to the point where members of the public can now peer inside the all-glass exterior of the theater.

Although there’s still work that needs to be done, the New York Times reported earlier this month that local propoerty prices have already shot up by nearly 20 percent per year due to the new project expected to attract business.
