The Flash Gets a New Costume in a Post-Savitar Future

Barry Allen is doing all he can to save Iris West from dying at the hands of Savitar. In the trailer for the forthcoming April 25 episode of The Flash, “The Once and Future Flash” (directed by none other than H.R. himself, Tom Cavanagh), Barry is seen wearing new duds that might be an upgrade to his current red outfit.

The trailer, which aired on The CW after this week’s episode “Abra Kadabra,” reveals that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will run to the future after Savitar has killed Iris West (Candace Patton). It’s a dark future, one where Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) has become Killer Frost and Wally West, aka Kid Flash (Keiyan Lonsdale), is in a wheelchair. There’s also a mop-haired future-Barry, and he clearly isn’t dealing with things very well.

But a haircut isn’t the only thing that’s different about future-Barry. The Fastest Man Alive has a new costume. Golden lightning bolt streaks serve as “belt” and gauntlet trims, which add a little more pizazz to the overwhelmingly maroon two-piece costume. It’s kind of a running joke that the Flash has the worst costume in his own show, maybe even in all of The CW’s Arrowverse. But these gold trims add some more color, and they’re visually pleasing. Iris may be dead in this future, but at least Barry’s got some snazzy new clothes, so it’s not all bad.

Lookin' good, Barry.

Will Savitar kill Iris? The god of speed is intent on exacting revenge on Barry Allen for reasons fans still don’t understand. It’ll be a whole month until fans find out more. Despite being a show about speedsters, answers to these questions just can’t come fast enough.

The Flash will return to The CW on April 25.
