'Mindhunter' Season 2 Easter Eggs Revealed in New Photos
So many bad guys, so little time.
A whole bunch of Mindhunter Season 2 photos have made their way to the internet this week and boy, oh boy, there are so many clues.
There are clues about the investigation by FBI agents Holden (Jonathan Groff) and Tench (Holt McCallany) into the Atlanta Child Murders. There are clues about the new serial killers the duo will interview. There are even new clues about how these new investigations will pan out.
It’s been two very long years, but finally, executive producer David Fincher and Co. have seen fit to drop all these new photos in our laps just ahead of the Mindhunter Season 2 Netflix premiere on August 16.
Tons of photos were first made available to reporters this week in an interactive website styled to look like a lightbox on which to view photo slides. The photos seemingly come from every episode of the eight-episode season.
Because Season 2’s primary focus is on the Atlanta Child Murders (a case which gripped the city in fear from 1979 to 1981), a majority of the new press photos focus on Holden and Tench’s investigation there.
Included in this Atlanta category is the first look at the fictionalized version of Wayne Williams, the primary suspect in the Atlanta Child Murders case who was never convicted but is currently serving a life sentence for the murders of two adult men.
Williams isn’t the only serial killer previewed in these new Mindhunter photos, either. Previewed on sites like Digital Spy, fans get their first look at many of the new and returning killers features this season. Ed Kemper (played wonderfully creepily by Cameron Britton) is back, and it looks like his next round of questioning takes place in a church.
Kemper’s return is of particular interest since he’s the only killer interviewed by Holden and Tench who is returning for the new season. Considering how chatty Kemper was the last time he spoke with the agents, perhaps he’ll give some more insights into how the mind of a killer works, further helping Holden and Tench in their investigations.
Because the show takes place between 1979 and 1981, new killers like David Berkowitz, a.k.a. “the Son of Sam,” and the infamous Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) will be interviewed, too. Both killers were incarcerated and likely assimilated into their new lives as inmates by the time 1979 rolled around. It’s still unclear why Holden and Tench will seek them out, aside from the obvious attempts to understand the motivations behind their crimes.
With serial killers being discovered left and right, operating in plain sight or in complete secret, the agents at the heart of Mindhunter will have their work cut out for them when Season 2 premieres on August 16.
