If you already binged Netflix’s newest superhero show, The Umbrella Academy, and need new episodes, you’re in luck because they’re officially coming. The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for Season 2.
Netflix confirmed the news in an email to Inverse, revealing several key details about Umbrella Academy Season 2. Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min will all reprise their roles. “Additional” casting news will come at a “later date.” Steve Blackman is also coming back as showrunner.
Netflix additionally confirmed that Umbrella Academy Season 2 will feature 10 episodes and starts filming this summer in Toronto, Canada.

Fans have been hoping Netflix would renew The Umbrella Academy since the first season ended on a major cliffhanger. While Number Five traveled through time in an attempt to stop the apocalypse, he was ultimately unsuccessful. With the world ending, he decided to time travel yet again. This time, he took his siblings, including Vanya, whose powers caused the apocalypse, with him.
Season 2 will presumably reveal what happened next.
“The truth is, we don’t know where they are. We don’t know what happened to them,” showrunner Steve Blackman told The Hollywood Reporter. “The apocalypse is not solved. They did not save the world, which is a slight alteration of the comic.”
The show is using the comics as a “springboard,” though not everything from the pages will necessarily translate well on-screen, Blackman continued. “The idea is not to deviate too much, we want to stay on course with what the comics are doing,” he explained. “Having that plan ahead of time allows us to set some things up now for later seasons, things that you’ll see and later be like, ‘Oh, I get that now, they did that for this reason.’”
That means that while you can look to the comics to get an idea of what could be coming up in The Umbrella Academy Season 2, you shouldn’t necessarily expect to see it play out exactly like that on-screen.
