'Jessica Jones' Season 3 Release Date Could Bring Back a Terrifying Villain

Netflix may have canceled Jessica Jones, but fans still have Season 3 to look forward to — and it may include the return of a popular villain. Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg recently addressed the cancelation of the Krysten Ritter-led series and offered what sounds like a tease for a surprising Season 3 villain: David Tennant’s haunting portrayal of Kilgrave.

Upon learning that Jessica Jones Season 3 would be its last, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment. “Goodbye again, Kilgrave,” one wrote, but Rosenberg’s response suggests that David Tennant could be appearing at some point in the final episodes. “Not quite yet,” she wrote.

Tennant’s Kilgrave was the Season 1 villain, but he was killed off at the end of it. He did appear in Season 2 Episode 11 as a hallucination of Ritter’s Jessica Jones. “I’ll be around if you need me” were the last words he spoke before fading away.

Could Jessica “need” him in some way in Season 3? He was last seen when Jessica was in the hospital waiting room during Trish’s surgery. If he does return, could it somehow be in connection to what’s going on with Trish and how that affects Jessica? Season 2 did end with the hint that Trish has powers, meaning the procedure that seemingly didn’t work actually did.

Trish is likely to be the main villain of Jessica Jones Season 3, taking on the identity of Hellcat after gaining powers similar to Jessica’s at the end of Season 2. However, it’s unclear if she’ll be more of a rival of an outright antagonist. Either way, there’s definitely room for Kilgrave to make an appearance, even if it’s a very brief one.

Could 'Jessica Jones' Season 3 feature one last Kilgrave appearance?

Netflix

Jessica Jones is ending with Season 3, which Rosenberg called their “grand send off” in one of her tweets after news of the cancelation broke.

That echoes Deadline’s statement that the series will end with “a savory series finale” in its report.

A return appearance from Tennant for its farewell would fit. The series began with Kilgrave. That doesn’t mean that it needs to end with him, but a reminder of the past wouldn’t hurt either.

Netflix has yet to announce the Jessica Jones Season 3 release date, but we’re expecting the final episodes of the Defenders saga to drop sometime this summer.

Jessica Jones Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
