'Mindhunter' Season 2 Release Date Window Allegedly Leaked by Series Star

The wait may be over soon for more from Netflix's crime drama.

Mindhunter Season 2 is expected to hit Netflix later this year, but we still don’t have an exact release date. However, a recent direct message allegedly coming from series star Holt McCallany (Bill Tench) may have confirmed a release window for Mindhunter Season 2.

The leak was recently shared on Reddit, where redditor u/SpiciestRamen posted a screenshot of an Instagram DM conversation with McCallany where the actor appears to confirm when Mindhunter Season 2 will release.

“Please I’m dying when is season 2,” the redditor asked.

“Not until fall of 2019,” the actor responded.

That’s probably the most specific detail we’ve gotten about the Mindhunter Season 2 release date so far! Of course, it’s possible the entire thing could be faked with photoshop, but it does look very real (McCallany’s profile picture here even matches up with his real Instagram account).

Update: In a statement to Inverse, Netflix called the leak “inaccurate,” adding, “we have not announced the release date for Season 2 yet.” The original articles continues below.

A fall 2019 release date would also match up with Mindhunter Season 1, which debuted on October 13, 2017. That would mean two years between seasons, which isn’t unheard of. Netflix also certainly has enough original programming to keep viewers entertained.

It’s also not the first time Mindhunter news has come to us via Instagram. Cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt announced that filming on Season 2 had finished with an Instagram post on December 7.

“I cannot think of a professional experience in my life more significant than #Mindhunter Season 2,” he captioned the photo. “It’s been wonderful to collaborate with 3 incredible directors, a beautiful cast, and the strongest crew of my career.”

It’s unclear exactly why it’s taking so long to finish editing MIndhunter Season 2, but fans have speculated that David Fincher’s editing process might be slowing down the launch. However, considering what a good job he did on Season 1, the wait will probably be worth it.

David Fincher’s Mindhunter follows FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Tench in the Behavioral Analysis Unit to study the minds of incarcerated killers in order to catch others.

What we do know about Season 2 is that the serial killers explored will include the Atlanta Child Murders and Charles Manson.

So, for now, we can only speculate about whether or not that fall 2019 release date is possible.

Mindhunter Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
