Tesla Pickup Truck: Elon Musk Teases Possible Reveal Date in Earnings Call

Tesla

The Tesla Pickup truck is almost ready for its big debut. During Tesla’s fourth-quarter earnings call held on Wednesday, CEO Elon Musk gave broad timeline of when the all-electric vehicle will be set for launch. He also further hyped just how distinct it will be compared with Tesla’s other EV options, like the Model 3 and S.

“It might be ready to be unveiled this summer. It will be quite unique, unlike anything else,” Musk said casually. That’s slightly later than the March 2019 unveiling date Musk had previously mentioned. So we don’t expected Tesla to take the wraps off of its most anticipated releases in June. And even then it likely won’t ship until the automaker puts it enters full productions, which Musk said could happen as early as 2020.

The Tesla Pickup is first in line amongst a handful of yet-to-be-released vehicles that the automaker has been developing for a few years now. In November of last year, Musk stated that the truck would take priority over the Tesla Semi big rig and the Roadster sports car. This strategy would make sense given the pickup truck’s popularity in the United States.

The Ford F-150 is the single most popular car in the U.S. and the most popular vehicle in 44 states, according to a report published on October 2018 by automotive marketing agency Hedges & Company. The Tesla Pickup truck could serve to introduce EVs to the demographic of consumers who prefer pickups, instead of SUVs. Though Tesla has not provided any details as to how much its truck would cost.

For now, the Tesla Pickup will remain a mystery until more updates surface and its eventual reveal. There have been sightings of the Semi and the Roadster, but there hasn’t even been as much as a glimpse of the Pickup. Musk has only revealed its concept designs and that it’ll offer a “cyberpunk” design/

But if Musk approximation is accurate, we’ll now the final design of the Pickup as early as June and it might be available for order sometime in 2020.
