'The Punisher' Season 2 Jigsaw: Set Photos, Spoilers and Everything to Know

While Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) will have a new villain in Josh Stewart’s John Pilgrim to contend with in The Punisher Season 2, he also still has to worry about Billy Russo (Ben Barnes). Frank and Billy’s Season 1 finale fight has had more than just physical repercussions on the latter, and his comics moniker, Jigsaw, can be used to describe more than just his cut-up face.

Light spoilers for The Punisher Season 2 below.

Fans got their first official look at Russo’s Season 2 look in the premiere date announcement trailer (above). Russo is suffering — and not just physically.

“It’s like a bomb went off inside my mind, scattering all the pieces,” Billy says. “There’s something on the edges, someone, like a dark shadow waiting for me. This face has everything that I ever did wrong written all over it.”

And that’s not something he wants to see, according to what Barnes told Collider.

“He’s had a plastic surgeon try to fix him” because, in Season 1, he was “a deeply narcissistic character,” he said. “His mask of appeal … has been stripped away from him. It’s about what he sees when he looks in the mirror as opposed to what others see.”

While he is known as Jigsaw in the comics, they don’t call him that on the show, at least not in what we’ve seen so far.

“He very much has a jigsaw puzzle in his brain,” Barnes said. “It’s not necessarily about his face, it’s about the psychological. … He’s had his head very much traumatized, in the same way that veterans receive these head traumas.”

While dealing with “brain damage” and “severe issues with his memory,” Russo will be “trying to piece together what happened to him and who he is,” the actor said. Those memory problems “give him this chance to really reinvent who he is but he has no control over what he’s thinking or feeling.”

By his side is psychotherapist Dr. Krista Dumont (Floriana Lima), who debuts in The Punisher Season 2. She has experience working with veterans and those with PTSD, and she’s using her “specific techniques and some insights” to help him, she said to Collider.

Will she be able to help him? Leaked set photos and video (like the ones below) have shown Russo in action in Season 2, and we know he’ll be donning a mask and causing trouble at some point.

Despite his memory problems, Russo’s conflict with Frank from Season 1 will factor into the former’s actions in Season 2. He does have some memories of Frank, showrunner Steve Lightfoot told IGN. While Russo deals with what he’s lost, he’s “coming to terms with the fact that Frank was the one who took that away from him.”

“[He] thinks he’s the one who’s aggrieved, that he has a reason to really want revenge on Frank,” Lightfoot continued. “Billy is the one going, ‘I’m going to make Frank pay because look what he did to me.’”

Marvel’s The Punisher Season 2 will be available on January 18 on Netflix.
