'Stranger Things' Season 3: We Finally Know When the Netflix Show Could End
Stranger Things Season 3 doesn’t even have a premiere date yet, but the actors and creators are already answering questions about future seasons and when the series could end. There seems to be a “magic number” already planned (and it’s not three) that hasn’t changed in the past year.
During an interview at Heroes Ditch Comic-Con, Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin on Stranger Things) told The Telegraaf that the show has at least a couple more seasons left.
“I know that [creators] Matt and Ross [Duffer], their goal is not to go as many seasons as possible,” Matarazzo said. “It’s to go until they finish their story, and I’ve heard the magic number is either four or five.”
This isn’t the first time Seasons 4 and 5 have been mentioned as the possible end of the series.
“Four to five seasons is likely where we’ll end up, but who knows?” Ross Duffer told E! News in 2017. “We know where we want to go. We’re trying to figure out still how long it’ll take to get there, so we’ll see.”
“Four seems short, five seems long,” his brother, Matt, said in the same interview.
What we do know is the Duffer brothers aren’t going anywhere. Back in February, a rumor surfaced that they would leave the show after Season 3, but Netflix debunked it with a single tweet.
“Don’t drop your Eggos,” read a post from the streaming service’s official account. “Rumors that the Duffer Bros are leaving Stranger Things after season 3 are false.”

Matarazzo also revealed that Stranger THings Season 3 will be “scarier, darker and funnier.” There will be “new threats” and “the same antagonists that we know,” he continued. “The Upside Down still plays a huge role in it.”
The actor also shared that filming the third season of Stranger Things was “a lot of fun” and “a long shoot.” They began filming at the end of April and wrapped on November 12.
Stranger Things Season 3 will be available on Netflix in 2019.
