"Teslaquila" Tesla-Branded Tequila Might Come to a Liquor Store Near You

It's IRL "Tres Comas."

No, this isn’t a reenactment of an episode of Silicon Valley. Elon Musk has taken it upon himself to file a trademark claim for “Teslaquila,” a Tesla-branded tequila. Yes, just like Russ Hanneman’s “Tres Comas.”

Though some might recall the name of the tech billionaire’s looming liquor launch from an April Fools joke he played on Twitter this year, this latest boast seems much more legit. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published Musk’s filing Monday, which he shared on Twitter as proof the development was ongoing.

The last we heard about this mythical potion Musk tweeted, “Elon was found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by “Teslaquilla” bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks.” This followed an obvious joke that stated Tesla filed for bankruptcy.

But this time, the Tesla CEO took to Twitter to verify that his line of booze will be “coming soon” and even provided a mockup of how the label could look like once that sweet, sweet Tesla juice starts flowing.

The trademark application states that the alcoholic beverage will be “Distilled agave liquor; Distilled blue agave liquor.” Mexican tequila is traditionally made with blue agave, but the fact that Musk differentiated could mean that there will be two varieties of the drink.

This isn’t Musk’s first foray into the world of gimmicky products to fund his tech ventures. The billionaire raised $10 million selling his The Boring Company “Not-A-Flamethrower” for $500 a pop. The tunneling company also amassed $80,000 by selling branded merchandise, proving that mimicking something out of a comedy show might actually be a good way to raise cash for his many audacious projects.

One caveat? This isn’t a promise “Teslaquila” will hit the shelves at your local liquor store any time soon. The trademark application was an “Intent to Use” filing meaning that Musk has yet to distill his tequila. But who knows? The next Tesla milestone might be followed by a round of shots.
