'Fortnite' Summer Skirmish Ends With $1.5M Open Tournament at PAX West
All that's needed is a controller, a chair, and a prayer.
Epic Games’ Fortnite Summer Skirmish Series will come to an end of August 31 with $1.5 million in prize money up for grabs. Unlike previous weeks, this event is open to gamers of all skill levels as long as they will be at PAX West 2018 in Seattle.
On Monday, the Fortnite: Battle Royale developer announced its final event in the Summer Skirmish Series will take place at PAX West starting on August 31. Unlike previous events where participants were invited by Epic, this last tournament will be open to con attendees creating what could be one of the biggest esports competitions.
Gamers going to PAX West can sign up over the course of three days starting on August 31. Each day, players will participate in three qualifying rounds with a final match each night. From that last game, 33 players will qualify for the day to participate in the final matches happening on September 3 and get some of that $1.5 million in prize money.
Epic’s Summer Skirmish Series began on the same week as the start of Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 5 back in July. The 8-week competition consists of two tournaments each weekend, one featuring U.S. players and the other filled with international players. Each week featured a new format that changed up the tournament for those participating and watching. Aside from the first week mishaps and a bit of controversy over how one player won an event, the series is a favorite for many in the Fortnite community.
The final Fortnite Summer Skirmish will happen on August 31. Those attending PAX West 2018 and wish to participate can visit Epic’s website on where to sign up for the tournament while those who want to watch the action can tune in to the official Fortnite Twitch channel.
In competitive Fortnite: Battle Royale play, one weapon is now key to any top performer and that’s the new high-powered Heavy Sniper. Its one shot damage makes no fort safe, which is key to winning matches.
