iPhone SE 2 Leaks Suggest the iPhone X Plus Won't Be the Coolest 2018 Device

Rumors start to come together.

All eyes have been on the 2018 iPhone lately. Ever since word got around the that the iPhone X might be kicking the curb, we’ve seen nonstop rumors about what its successor would look like. The latest intel suggests three models will be announced in September: a larger device called the iPhone X Plus; an updated, standard iPhone X; and a more affordable device, similar to the iPhone SE.

New leaks and rumors suggest that the smallest smartphone might steal the show this year.

iPhone SE 2 Leaks and Rumors: Where the News Is Coming From

On May 11, Chinese smartphone case maker Olixar and online accessories store Mobile Fun published renders of an “iPhone 2018.” The computer-generated images depict a phone that melds together the compact chassis of the iPhone SE with FaceID capabilities and the notched, edge-to-edge display of the iPhone X — only with an LDC screen instead of OLED.

Citing sources at Mobile Fun, Forbes claims it has confirmed that Apple is moving forward with this design.

This is supported by the recent leaks by well-known smartphone leaker Evan Blass and Japanese blog Macotakara. Blass tweeted a screenshot of what appear to be insider documents that state the smartphone will be named the “iPhone SE (2018).” While sources at the Japan IT Week Spring 2018 Mobile Expo that told Macotakara that all existing prototypes of upcoming iPhones do not have Touch ID and have a notch. Both of these separate rumors match up with the Olixar images.

iPhone SE 2 Leaks and Rumors: Can We Expect All This and a 2018 Release Date?

There’s reason to be skeptical. It’s possible that the budget iPhone rumor that has been going around could be referencing these leaked renders. But it’s still fishy that Apple would implement high-end iPhone X features in a cheaper, smaller phone, seeing as Tim Cook was adamant about keeping the iPhone X at its $999 price point.

We seem to be getting close to some answers, but we won’t know until we get closer to Apple’s September keynote. Still, a larger screen in a smaller unit with a much lower price tag? What’s not to get excited about?
