Apple fans have a lot to deal with right now. The Worldwide Developers Conference is June 4 and the next iPhone keynote likely in September, so naturally, rumors about the company’s possible hardware and software releases have been spreading across the internet like wildfire.

iOS 12 features have leaked and the possibility of an iPhone X Plus has emerged. Now more information regarding a widely rumored budget device — a 6.1-inch iPhone — has surfaced.

iPhone 2018 Rumors: Screen Size, Price, MLCD+ vs. OLED and More

While this iPhone iteration might directly follow the iPhone X, there is a lot of speculation saying it will be wildly different. For one, it could be priced as low as $550 and, according to anonymous sources interviewed by Business Korea, it might use the same MLCD+ screen technology as LG’s upcoming G7 ThinQ smartphone.

“According to the smartphone industry on May 9, Apple is expected to load its next 6.1-inch iPhone model with an MLCD+ display which LG used in its G7 ThinQ smartphone,” stated the report. “The MLCD+ display realizes a bright screen with less power consumption than the IPS LCD display.”

The iPhone X made use of organic light emitting diode (OLED) screens, which tout the crispest display in the game. However, one of their biggest drawbacks is the price tag. This was one of the reasons the iPhone X was priced at $999 to start. Reverting to liquid crystal displays (LCD) could be the design overhaul necessary to make this upcoming phone more affordable.

If this report proves to be true, it would further support the fact that Apple’s rumored 6.1-inch iPhone could be priced significantly lower than the iPhone X. We might have a next-generation budget iPhone on our hands.
