Dan Harmon Is "Optimistic" About 'Rick and Morty' Season 4 Negotiations

But he really, really doesn't want to be asked about this stuff.

Adult Swim

Even though it’s insanely popular, Rick and Morty hasn’t officially been renewed for a fourth season yet. The worst-case scenario is that there show’s done, but even in the more likely case that Adult Swim does renew it, the delay is just making the long wait for Season 4 even longer. Luckily, there appears to be some good news, as the show’s co-creator, Dan Harmon, said he’s “optimistic” about the show’s chances.

Harmon acts in a new movie that debuted at the Tribeca film festival, Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss by Passing Through the Gateway Chosen by the Holy Storch, but you can bet that any entertainment journalists who got a chance to chat with him made sure to ask about Rick and Morty. When Den of Geek asked about Season 4, Harmon seemed slightly less gloomy than he has in the past.

“I’m optimistic right now, at the moment,” Harmon said. “Negotiations are tough. It’s an unprecedented situation, and everybody’s being real cool and wants to make an agreement happen so that we can get started. That’s about all I can say.”

That really is about all he could be expected to say, too. Negotiations are complicated, and they tend to get more complicated when folks involve start running their mouth to outside parties. But, at least it’s an encouraging sign that Rick and Morty will return, eventually.

For what it’s worth, Harmon really wishes people wouldn’t ask him about this. After Vulture got him to comment on the Szechuan Sauce shitshow, he tweeted about how they’d really put him in a hard place by asking about it at all.

“Dan Harmon Strains to Come Up with Anything to Say Other Than ‘I Was Told Not to Talk About That and was Told You Were Told Not to Ask’ When Interviewers Ask Him About Chicken McNuggets and Rick and Morty During Interviews About His Friend’s Movie at Tribeca,” he wrote.

Rick and Morty Season 4 doesn’t have a premiere date yet, because that’s the whole point of this article.
