5 Biggest Reveals from Apple's Education Event

It wasn't all about homework.

Apple made a push to get into schools in today’s education event at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago. As Inverse previously reported, rumors ahead of the highly anticipated event had Apple fans buzzing about news releases and features — some of which, it turns out, were spot-on.

While there was no shortage of news-worthy Apple reveals at the event, five, in particular, stood out as especially exciting. Inverse has rounded those up to keep you on top of the biggest news coming out of the Apple bonanza.

New iPad

A new version of the iPad made its debut on the Lane Tech College Prep stage. It has a 9.7-inch screen, 8MP camera, A10 Fusion chip, and Touch ID. Schools can purchase the new iPad for $299, while it will be available to the public at $329. The new iPad is available for purchase online at the Apple Store.

Expanded Apple Pencil Support

Last year, Apple showed off the big and powerful iPad Pro, which made use of the Apple Pencil. The new iPad, unveiled today, also makes use of the Apple Pencil — and not only that, the accessory will work on more apps, including Pages.

Logitech Crayon

With a price tag of $99, some may find the Apple Pencil to be a bit too pricey, so a third-party alternative is now available. The Logitech Crayon will have the same basic functions as the Apple Pencil at the comparatively more affordable price of $49.

Classroom Apps

Schoolwork is a new app designed for teachers to use to hand out assignments and other in-class work via the iPad. For schools that do give students iPads, there will also be an option to create profiles for the students, which can be shared between devices.

More Coding

Apple’s coding app for students, Swift Playground, will get an upgrade. The app will teach kids to code augmented reality and other coding basics.
