Climate Change Will Welcome Our New Alien Overlords

Former astronaut says man's changes to the planet would signal intelligent life.

Depending on your world view, this news could be either the silver lining of climate change or just more confirmation we’ve doomed ourselves. A former NASA astronaut says that if there are aliens, they know we’re here already because the changes we’ve made to the planet’s environment are a dead giveaway.

“If there is life out there, intelligent life, they’ll know we’re here,” said John Grunsfeld, the associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. “We put out atmospheric signatures that guarantee someone with a large telescope 20 light years away could detect us.”

The same story that reported Grunseld’s comments noted NASA scientists think alien life will be found within 30 years, but that they’d most likely be microbes, meaning that even if they do have some form of superpowered death laser it’ll probably be really tiny and not much of a threat.
