'Thor: Ragnarok' Director Reveals One of His Biggest Regrets From the Movie

Marvel Studios

As the director of Thor: Ragnarok, much of the film’s success will be (and has already been) credited to Taika Waititi. But, there’s one aspect of the movie that he doesn’t think he’s been acknowledged enough for, which is one of his biggest regrets about the film.

In a video posted by Vanity Fair to YouTube on Thursday, Waititi revealed that he actually designed a spaceship in the scene after Thor and Loki have their heartfelt conversation in an elevator. “This spaceship back here, I designed this. And it’s now in a movie. And I didn’t get paid for it. So, a very big sore point for me with this movie,” Waititi said. “One of my biggest regrets [of] making ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is I haven’t been acknowledged [for] my amazing design, which is essentially a box, a flying box, and nobody’s done that before in the movies, ‘cept for me.”

The glorious “flying box” in question:

Of course, Waititi is completely joking here. But it is cool to hear that he participated more in the design of the film than simply collaborating with artists. His analysis of the scene being inspected in the video is also pretty great, mostly for his comments on Loki moving from Thor’s left to Thor’s right in the scene, following them finally reaching some sort of resolution after coming into conflict with each other in the past. “Maybe there’s something symbolic in that, that now they’ve swapped over, they’ve swapped sides, and there’s a…crossing over emotionally,” he says.

In any case, with the film’s current global box office, people all over the world have clearly already started to give the spaceship Waititi designed the acknowledgement it deserves.

Thor: Ragnarok is in US theaters now.
