The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL’s last unbeaten team, which means the last time they lost was in last season’s playoffs. They get a chance to avenge that defeat when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday. A hive mind of about 30 NFL fans predict the Chiefs will win.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has played like an MVP candidate through Kansas City’s 5-0 start, throwing 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. Ben Roethlisberger… hasn’t, with five interceptions in last week’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kansas City is poised to get revenge for last year’s 18-16 loss in the divisional round, but Pittsburgh and Roethlisberger have a long history of coming up with big wins.

To predict the result of this and other games, Unanimous A.I. used what’s known as swarm intelligence to forecast the week’s slate. More than 40 NFL fans worked together as a hive mind to make picks. As you can see in the animation below, each participant controlled a little golden magnet and used it to drag the puck toward the answer they thought was the most likely outcome. As the users saw the puck move toward a particular outcome, it triggers a psychological response. They readjust their decision-making, building toward a consensus. Here’s Unanimous A.I. founder Lloyd Rosenberg explaining swarm intelligence at a recent TEDx Talk.

Unanimous A.I. has made some scarily accurate predictions in the past using swarm intelligence, as our previous article explains. For instance, the swarm went a perfect 7-0 in its most recommended picks for a recent English Premier League slate.

The swarm really likes the Chiefs at home here, picking them to win with high confidence and 87 percent brainpower behind the pick.

The Chiefs need to win by at least five points to cover the spread, and again the swarm is feeling very good about this one, picking them with high confidence and 86 percent brainpower.

The game kicks off 4:25 p.m. Eastern Sunday on CBS.
