Did Someone in Congress Secretly Edit Admiral Ackbar's Wikipedia?

It might be a trap. But, it appears as though someone in the U.S. House of Representatives has anonymously edited the Wikipedia page about the Star Wars character Admiral Ackbar. And the strangest thing is, it looks like this person added material about the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis into the backstory of Ackbar. Okay, this is definitely a trap!

On Wednesday, the Twitter account Congress Edits noticed that someone in the U.S. House of Representatives made an edit to the Ackbar Wikipedia entry. Congress Edits determines the location of an edit made to Wikipedia based on the IP address of the user and the user’s account history.

What’s odd about this, is that the suggested change to Ackbar’s backstory would now include the story Palpatine told Anakin about Darth Plagueis in Revenge of the Sith. Obviously, Darth Plagueis has nothing to do with Admiral Ackbar, making the suggested edit weird to say the least. The edit is pretty much a cut-and-paste of Palpatine’s speech to Anakin all about how Darth Plauegeis was killed by his apprentice in his sleep.

As an open-source reference guide, Wikipedia allows anyone to edit articles, though a small group of editors keeps an eye on those edits. They then decide whether or not to let a revision stand, or to reverse it back.

Here's the attempted edit.

As of Thursday, the Wikipedia entry for Admiral Ackbar does not include the Palaptaine speech to Anakin. Which should make Ackbar fans happy and has probably thwarted some insidious plot from a Sith Lord working inside of the House of Representatives.

Dialogue from this 'Revenge of the Sith' was added to Ackbar's backstory. Even Anakin is confused.

In the Star Wars prequels, Palpatine was Senator in the Galactic Republic. His counterpart in our world, who is scurrilously spreading misinformation about everyone’s favorite fish-alien, remains, like the Dark Lord himself, hidden.

Admiral Ackbar is set to appear in The Last Jedi which hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
