Lots of Parents Are Naming Their Kids Kylo, Tempting Fate

Disney

If Han Solo were alive, he’d probably be feeling a little stabbed in the back by some recent data from the Social Security Administration. The SSA just released its list of 2016’s most popular baby names, revealing that “Kylo” is the fastest-growing name for boys in the United States. If you listen closely, you can hear Han scream, “why?” from beyond the Star Wars grave.

The Social Security Administration reports that the name Kylo jumped in rank from 3,269 in 2015 to 901 in 2016, a total of 2,368 spots, proving that even parenthood and the storyline of a son killing his father can’t ward off determined nerds. Meanwhile, the name Ben (Kylo’s given name) only moved up 33 spots from 737 to 704 in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

The name Rey increased for boys in 2016, jumping by 36 points to the 868th most popular name, while Finn is the highest-ranked Star Wars pull, having moved up 34 points to sit as the 175th most popular name for boys in 2016.

And as interesting as that all is, Han’s still dead, killed by his son, Kylo. Parents with kids named Kylo should probably watch their backs.
