Louisiana Cops Send a Truck Flying With Some Spike Strips

For decades now, people have been complaining that nobody has invented a flying car yet. Turns out there’s actually a really easy way to get a 2-ton automobile in the air: lay down a couple spike strips in front of a speeding truck.

And, boy, was this truck speeding. As footage obtained by Shreveport, Louisiana CBS affiliate KLSA shows, the Toyota Tacoma was cruising along at 115 miles per hour. Police say that the driver of the car, 18-year-old Kevonte Dekorey Austin, tried to bolt when an officer pulled him and a companion over for speeding. Austin had reportedly escaped prison, and the truck was stolen, so when his companion stepped out of the car on the officer’s urging, Austin bolted.

The chase came to an abrupt end in Webster Parish when cops put several spike strips in the truck’s path. At those speeds, Austin instantly lost control, and his truck veered off into a drainage ditch and then went soaring through the air. The entire incident was caught on camera by a bystander who probably got very, very scared for a second as the vehicle careened towards them.

KLSA reports that the truck landed on top of a parked Toyota Corolla — with a woman seated inside. Thankfully, she wasn’t injured, and the driver is back in custody.
