Chris Miller Kicks Off 'Star Wars' Han Solo Filming With Two Jokes

The Han Solo-centric Star Wars standalone movie has begun with a party. We don’t know if Han and Lando will openly consume space beer in the film, but if they do, it will certainly be out of the offical cup of all keggers: a red Solo cup.

On Monday, co-director Chris Miller tweeted a photo of himself holding the clapboard for the as-yet-untitled Han Solo movie. The tweet read “Han Shot First,” a reference to the infamous scene from the original Star Wars film in which Han Solo shoots the bounty hunter Greedo under the table in cold blood. But in the George Lucas 1997 “special edition,” Han was depicted shooting second and a new aggressive laser blast was added from Greedo, making Han’s murder of the bounty hunter retroactively seen as in “self-defense.” For many fans, this made Han “lame,” and the phrase “Han Shot First” became a battle cry for fan purists. Obviously, used in this context, the phrase also means directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord have begun shooting the new movie.

The clapboard also sports what looks to be a stand-in joke-title for the movie: “Red Cup.” This is a play on the idea that the plastic red cups — often favored at wild keg parties — are usually the kind manufactured by the company “Solo.” Han’s last name is … Solo. Get it?

The Han Solo movie will be released sometime in 2018. Here’s everything we know about it.
