HBO Made Its Own Fan-Style Video Honoring Hodor On 'Game of Thrones'

'Game of Thrones' is acknowledging its own fandom and taking a leaf out of its book.

Game of Thrones is not just a show, it’s a nine-headed Hydra, or to be more A Song of Ice and Fire appropriate, a three-headed dragon. The fandom and fan theories are just as important as the story and characters — and HBO has been acknowledging this more and more. First they joined the aftershow phenomenon this year with After The Thrones a Talking-Dead style show analyzing the events of the most recent Game of Thrones episode. Now it looks like their Youtube channel is moving into fan-video style content. This video they just unrolled is a supercut honoring the most recent fallen character, Hodor.

This is significant for two reasons: firstly, to any tinfoil-hat “Hodor lives!” conspiracy theorists, he’s really dead. Sorry to burst your bubble. And secondly, it means that fan-culture is becoming so influential, the original creations are jumping onboard. Feel powerful. Unleash your sly smiles.

The next episode — in which an egregiously missing Bronn will finally return — will air this Sunday, June 5th on HBO.
