Does 'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' have a post-credits scene? (No spoilers)

Is it worth sticking around until the very end? Here's what you need to know.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is almost here, and if you’re heading to a screening this weekend there’s probably one big question on your mind: Does Episode IX have a post-credits scene? If you’re the type of person who cares about that sort of thing, here’s what you need to know in a totally spoiler-free article.

So, does Rise of Skywalker have a post-credits scene? Short answer: No, but there’s still a big reason to stick around after the movie ends.

Confused? I’ll try to make things clear without actually spoiling the movie. Basically, there’s a scene in Star Wars: Episode IX where we hear (but don’t see) a bunch of familiar voices from previous Star Wars stories. It’s a bit like that scene in The Force Awakens where Rey first finds Luke’s lightsaber and hears the voices of old Jedi, including both Obi-Wan Kenobi actors.

Anyway, the point is, you’ll hear a lot of voices you might vaguely recognize, but if you’re wondering who they were, just stick around. At the end of the credits, Lucasfilm reveals each returning actor and who they voiced. And it’s a pretty exciting list!

Beyond that, I can’t tell you anything more. You’ll have to see the movie for yourself to find out who these voices are and why they matter. And if you’re wondering why The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t have a traditional Marvel-style post-credits scene, well, there are two reasons…

Lucasfilm

First, that’s just not the way of the Jedi. Star Wars obviously predates the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but when Disney took over the franchise, it never tried to shoehorn this particular tactic into the new movies.

It just wouldn’t feel right, though based on some recent quotes about the future of Star Wars, it seems the next batch of movies could look a lot more like Marvel. So maybe the first Star Wars post-credits scene is just a few years away.

Second, Rise of Skywalker is being billed as the end to the entire Skywalker saga. It might not be a totally satisfying ending, but it’s an ending nonetheless. Tacking on a post-credits scene that teases Season 2 of The Mandalorian or a Babu Frik spinoff (Disney willing) would be jarring in the context of this movie.

So no, there’s no post-credits scene at the end of Episode IX, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth sticking around until the very end.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20, but the earliest screenings begin tomorrow night!.
