'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' Theory Says Zorri Hunts a Shocking Character

Vanity Fair

There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Zorri Bliss and what she’ll be up to in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The character (played by Keri Russell) looks an awful lot like a bounty hunter, and a new theory argues that she could move the plot of Episode IX forward in an unexpected way by pursuing a bounty on one of our favorite Resistance fighters: Finn.

Speculative spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker below.

In a recent post to the Star Wars Speculation subreddit, Redditor u/lib3r8 presented one of the more interesting theories regarding Zorri’s identity and her mission in The Rise of Skywalker that we’ve seen so far. As a bounty hunter, u/lib3r8 suggests her mission is to find Finn and bring him back to the First Order. This makes a lot of sense considering Finn rebelled and escaped from their clutches in Force Awakens and has yet to face any major consequences for his actions. There’s no doubt the First Order is aware he escaped, and they might want to punish him for his actions before potentially brainwashing him back into servitude.

What happens to those who run away from their duty? Nothing good, that’s for sure. Finn’s been helping the Resistance since Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and sending a bounty hunter after him could give him an interesting story arc in Episode IX. It would certainly showcase the power of the First Order and give Finn a real chance to fight for and win a more permanent freedom. If Zorri’s after him, it could also lead to some great battle scenes between the two characters.

Given her costume, Zorri is certainly not a member of the First Order, but that doesn’t mean she’s above working for them. After all, bounty hunters have no sense of loyalty. They’re assigned a mission and they must carry it out.

Considering she’s a rogue like DJ was in The Last Jedi, Zorri’s motives shouldn’t be trusted. She might be out to capture Finn, with no regards for what happens to him after she collects her money. Simply based on her stance, outfit, and mask, Zorri’s certainly on some kind of mission.

Finn escaped the First Order with no consequences, and that might come back to haunt him.

Another interesting theory is that Zorri was actually hired by the Resistance to capture General Hux. Perhaps they need someone with insider information and believe Hux could provide them with a lead regarding the First Order’s plans.

This would make for an interesting turn of events, but it’s doubtful the Resistance would hire a bounty hunter to capture Hux — they’re more likely to use scrappier resources to get what they need. Additionally, the First Order is far more strict in terms of security. It would be hard for Zorri to move freely in and around their base to get to Hux without being noticed.

Bounty hunters are nothing new to the Star Wars franchise and have been key players since the original trilogy. After all, Boba Fett is one of the most well-known bounty hunters in the galaxy, and Zorri’s mask is similar to Fett’s, just with a modern take. Whether Zorri is a bounty hunter remains to be seen, but the idea of her potential hunt and capture of Finn might be one of the more intriguing theories surrounding Russell’s role in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019.
