'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' Leaks May Reveal Rey's Shocking True Father

The identity of Rey’s parents has been a major topic of speculation ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters, but The Last Jedi scuttled our theories by revealing that they were just two junk traders who didn’t care about her. However, recent reports seem to suggest Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker could retcon that detail to give Rey important parents. A believable new leak claims the new movie will reveal one of them — and it’ll be a very familiar face.

Warning: Possible spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ahead.

Some fans were concerned that J.J. Abrams identifying Rey as a Skywalker would undo Rian Johnson’s take on her parentage in The Last Jedi. Others also worried that it would take away from the notion that anyone could become a Jedi and use the Force. This potential spoiler, however, could make it so that the mystery of Rey’s parentage plays a major factor in Star Wars: Episode IX but won’t erase what’s already been revealed.

Redditor u/SorryNotSpartacus posted a leak, originally shared by Jason Ward of Making Star Wars, that Rey isn’t a Skywalker after all. That’s because her father is Han Solo, but her mother isn’t Leia. That also makes her and Kylo Ren half-siblings, so all that Force flirting in The Last Jedi was kinda gross.

The secret will play a major role in The Rise of Skywalker, but probably won’t backtrack on any other information (the people who actually raised Rey could still be junk traders for all we know). In a sneak peek shown at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago earlier this year, Lando sits in a diner with Finn and Poe. Ward suggests this is when they learn of Rey’s parentage.

Here’s what Ward had to say about the rumor, as paraphrased by u/SorryNotSpartacus:

“Rey is Han Solo’s daughter. But she is not Leia Organa’s daughter — and therefore is not a Skywalker. Leia and Han were estranged when she began training with Luke. When she did not complete that training she returned to Han, but Ben Solo knew of the affair (although not necessarily about Rey), and began acting out, and this was when he was sent to Luke.”

Ward insists this is just a rumor and will probably remain so until there’s more information (either from the creators or the movie itself). So treat it with a grain of salt. He also reports that Rey’s mother is definitely not Keri Russell’s new character, Zorri, though some fans have speculated that it could be Qi’ra from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Despite all the questions it might raise, Rey being Kylo’s half-sister would certainly explain why they share a connection and also why Kylo has a strange fascination with her in The Last Jedi. It would also bring more clarity to The Force Awakens, particularly the brief connection Rey had with Han before he died and how quickly she looked up to him as a father figure.

While it’ll most likely remain unconfirmed until the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the rumor comes from a reliable source and is pretty plausible given what we know so far (though it still doesn’t explain that title). Of course, that assumes Episode IX decides to dig up the question of Rey’s parentage at all. It’s just as likely the new movie will simply accept what The Last Jedi revealed, though finding out that Han was Rey’s father would be a pretty epic twist in a move already expected to pack some major surprises.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019.
