'Spider-Man: Far From Home' Spoilers: Post-Credits May Set Up Sinister Six

It isn’t that far off until Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters, but a huge detail may have leaked out early. A Reddit user claiming to be a freelance special effects artist at Disney (immediate red flag right here) says the post-credits scene sets up Spider-Man’s supervillain ensemble, the Sinister Six. It’s probably bogus, but in case it’s true, you heard it here first on Inverse dot com.

On Sunday, redditor u/RoyG575 (a throwaway account to conceal their identity), posted in r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers in bizarrely great detail how the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home sets up the Sinister Six for future Spider-Man movies.

“There is a mid-credit scene and a post-credit scene, but only one is super important, which is the mid-credits,” RoyG575 wrote. “I haven’t directly seen the post-credits scene, but another artist told me it was something comedic with Happy and Peter, which has an insignificant impact on the overall story arc.”

RoyG575 then proceeds to break down how the mid-credits of Far From Home plays out. To sum it up (because it’s a long post), the scene takes place in OSCORP, where a shadowy figure (probably Norman Osborn) recruits Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio to a growing group of villains: Vulture, Shocker, Chameleon, and Scorpion. Between Mysterio and Maybe Norman Osborn (Green Goblin), that’s a whole crew for the Sinister Six.

RoyG575 says that Vulture (played by Michael Keaton, although RoyG575 doesn’t say Keaton is in the scene) and Shocker appear as modified versions of their characters in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Chameleon is also in costume, as is Scorpion (who appeared in Homecoming out of costume played by Michael Mando).

RoyG575 further claims the new buyer of Avengers Tower in New York, where the Sinister Six gather in the scene, is Norman Osborn, as there is a large green “OSCORP” logo where “Stark” used to be. They added, “It was about 45 seconds but I have only seen the whole clip twice. This scene obviously sets up the Sinister Six which will probably be further explored in the MCU.”

There’s a lot of valid reasons to doubt RoyG575 as a leaker, though Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is working on the visual effects for Spider-Man: Far From Home, and is in fact a division of Walt Disney Studios.

What’s difficult to believe is their “special effects artist” origin story when it can be very easy for companies like Disney and Sony to identify a leaker and fire them. Especially for a popular post on Reddit that’s gotten a lot of activity since it was first shared over the weekend.

There’s also a very strong “fanfiction” vibe coming off of RoyG575’s description. The whole thing just doesn’t read like a scene Marvel would actually write and shoot. It sounds like a scene fans wish they could see. It just checks off all the boxes, right down to the part where Norman Osborn is kept to the shadows to keep his image of a scary billionaire.

I’m also, personally, just peeved that the possibility of a Sinister Six movie could maybe be real, and Kraven, Doc Ock, and Electro aren’t anywhere to be found. Not a big deal, just something that offends me personally.

The Sinister Six has been trying to happen on the big screen for a long time, and it’s crazy to think it hasn’t happened after SEVEN movies (not including crossovers like Avengers: Infinity War). Had the reboot films with Andrew Garfield gotten to a trilogy, the Sinister Six would have happened in a spin-off. The MCU has also hinted at the Sinister Six since the mid-credits of Homecoming, but they’re far from a place where they can assemble.

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2.
