'Spider-Verse' Movie Cast: Meet the New Heroes, Including Nicholas Cage

You don’t say: Nicholas Cage is voicing Spider-Man Noir, a gritty Depression-era Spider-Man from an alternate reality, in the new animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a new clip (watch it above) revealed on Thursday.

You can hear Cage along with actors Hailee Steinfeld, John Mulaney, and Kimiko Glenn in a new trailer that spotlights their versions of Spider-Man.

Sony released the international sneak peek at Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that introduces Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, and SP//dr, a Japanese-American teenager named Penni Parker who fights crime in a super-powered mech suit. (Think D.Va from Overwatch, but spider-y.)

While Jake Johnson (New Girl) voices Peter Parker and actor/rapper Shameik Moore (Dope) lends his voice for Miles Morales, the other characters are played by some equally exciting talent. Cage, of course, plays Spider-Man Noir, a character created by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and Carmine Di Giandomenico that envisions Peter Parker fighting crime in 1933 New York.

Cage is well-known for being a massive comic book aficionado. His stage name (his real name is Nicolas Kim Coppola) is a riff on Luke Cage, and he named his son Kal-El, the Kryptonian birth name for Superman. He nearly played Superman in Tim Burton’s long-canceled movie. In 2011, amid financial problems, Cage sold a near-mint Action Comics #1 for a reported $2.1 million. Earlier this year, Cage voiced Superman in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Comedian John Mulaney, whose Netflix special Kid Gorgeous earned critical acclaim, plays Spider-Ham, a creation of Tom DeFalco and Mark Armstrong. Spider-Ham first appeared in a one-shot comic parody that became so popular Marvel made it a bi-monthly series, Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham.

Penni Parker, who fights crime in her SP//dr mech suit, is a Japanese-American adopted by Ben and May Parker. She first appeared in Edge of Spider-Verse, a tie-in series to the 2014 crossover Spider-Verse that directly inspired the new film.

Spider-Gwen's origin story, as told in 'Spider-Gwen - Marvel Legacy Primer Pages' by Robbie Thompson and Mark Bagley.

And of course, Hailee Steinfeld voices Gwen Stacy. While Peter Parker fell head over heels with Gwen Stacy in a tragic love story, another reality had Gwen Stacy bit by a radioactive spider that gave her superpowers instead. She goes by multiple aliases in her universe, but fans know her as Spider-Gwen.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on December 14.
