'Venom' After-Credits Explained: Meanwhile in Another Spider-Man Universe

Meanwhile, in another universe...

The Marvel multiverse expands with Venom, and it gets even bigger in the post-credits scene.

As the credits roll in Ruben Fleischer’s Venom, out now in theaters, the film teleports viewers to another Marvel Universe, one they’ve never seen before but will get the chance to very soon.

Spoilers for Venom ahead.

As the credits end in Venom, a simple, comic book-style exposition box declares “Meanwhile, in another universe…”

From there, viewers meet Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore (Dope). What follows is an entire action sequence from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a new animated film slated for release on December 14.

Don’t Miss: ‘Venom’ Movie Review

Because Spider-Verse is still months away, it’s difficult to tell how far into the movie the scene takes place. But it must be early, as the scene stages the hilarious “meeting” — and subsequent chase scene — between Miles, another teenager bit by a radioactive spider, and Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), who hails from a different universe parallel to Miles’.

In the comics, Miles Morales debuted in 2011 as the new hero of Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli’s Ultimate Spider-Man, a different universe where Peter Parker dies a public hero and Miles Morales takes up the mantle as Spider-Man.

That’s pretty much the same premise for Into the Spider-Verse. But because of some dimensional brouhaha yet to be revealed, another Peter Parker appears, and Peter and Miles will have to team up if they want to save the universe.

While mostly based on Bendis’ Ultimate Spider-Man, the new film from directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman also adapts 2012’s Spider-Men, where Miles meets Peter Parker from the “main” Marvel Universe (Earth-616), and 2014’s Spider-Verse, in which spider heroes from all parallel dimensions team up to prevent their own annihilation.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on December 14.
