Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Tired of Obi-Wan Spin-Off Questions

He wants to do the movie, he really does.

Ewan McGregor’s new film, Disney’s ‘Christopher Robin’, was in the top three in ticket sales at the box office these past two weekends and has a 70 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Still, people want to ask him about doing an Obi-Wan spinoff movie. He continues to assure people he does want to come back to the franchise.

McGregor appeared on The View in early August to talk about his new film. Co-host Sunny Hostin ended the interview with a question about the possibility of a Star Wars standalone Obi-Wan movie. As he has done in the past, McGregor said he would do it, but as of right now, he knows of no plans for the standalone.

“I would totally do it, of course,” McGregor said on the show. “It’s so funny, I’ve been asked this question years and years. I’d be happy to do it. There must be a good story to tell as they’re doing spin-offs. There’s got to be a good Obi-Wan [story] between me and Alec Guinness. I’ve answered yes so many times that it looks like I’m touting for work at Disney’s door.”

Back in May, rumors circulated of the Obi-Wan movie being in pre-production along with a standalone for Boba Fett. However, there have been no further updates about either film. There was speculation Disney paused on the additional Star Wars movies because of the lackluster performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Nine films are in different stages of production, but there has been no definitive announcement of a new movie outside of Star Wars: Episode IX.

At 47 years old, Disney has some time to cast McGregor before he reaches 63, the age Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan in Star Wars: A New Hope.

News about the next film in the franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been light in recent months, but the theories are rampant. One theory about Rey’s parents could really change things if it’s true.
