'Star Wars Episode 9': Mark Hamill Teases Return of Beloved Character
He gave us some new hope.
Even with Solo: A Star Wars Story’s release only a few weeks away, there is still a lot of interest in anything about Star Wars: Episode IX. Mark Hamill also helps excite Star Wars fans with his mysterious tweets, as was the case with one such tweet hinting at the return of his character.
Hamill tweeted an image Tuesday of a silhouette of Luke Skywalker in his meditation pose on Ahch-To, a scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In the image, Luke is captioned as saying, “See you around kid,” and Hamill’s only text in the tweet is the hashtag #Foreshadowing. This tweet appears to hint that Luke could return in the next Star Wars movie — or at the very least, it seems hopeful.
The fate of Luke Skywalker in Episode IX is still a mystery. Although the Jedi Master died in The Last Jedi, there have been clues suggesting otherwise. In a scrapped script by Colin Trevorrow, Luke was supposed to stay alive, and Princess Leia was going to be the central figure of the movie.
Hamill made it known several times that he didn’t agree with the depiction of Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi and that maybe there were too many Star Wars movies. Even though he walked back some of his criticism, he did make it known that he wished George Lucas was more involved in the production of the newest trilogy. Back in March, he recounted how Lucas’s original idea for Episode IX would have kept Luke alive until the very end.
Episode IX’s plot is still unknown for now and will release on Dec. 20, 2019. J.J. Abrams is at the helm of the movie after Trevorrow was removed from the film’s production by Lucasfilm in September.
One character who will return in Episode IX is C-3PO. The droid may also show up in Solo when it comes out May 25.
