Watch a 'Star Wars' Planet Being Built on Earth IRL

Before long, that galaxy that’s far, far away will feel a whole lot closer, because construction on the Star Wars-themed amusement park is flying along faster than you can say “12 parsecs.”

On Thursday, Disney’s Parks YouTube account released a flyover video of construction on its new Galaxy’s Edge amusement park at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The enormous new park is scheduled for completion sometime in 2019.

This new planet in the Star Wars galaxy is called Batuu. The official word from Disney is that this specific locale is “a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge that was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes.” So expect it to have tons of rogues and scoundrels lurking around in its cantinas.

Galaxy’s Edge will include a hotel resort for guests to stay in that’s entirely Star Wars-themed, along with an amusement park with tons of different rides and attractions. One will “lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission” and another “puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

Batuu will, of course, offer a cantina and a “dinner club” as well. In the former, you’ll be able to “sample the daily specials, interact with the locals, and hear the latest rumors from the far reaches of the galaxy.” And Disney calls the dinner club “the finest place on the planet to relax, indulge, and it’s unlike anyplace we’ve ever seen before.”

So far, the construction looks remarkably similar to Disney’s previous 3D rendering:

Astonishingly, there are two versions of Galaxy’s Edge currently in construction: One at Disneyland in California and another at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Both parks should be released sometime in 2019, but Disney hasn’t announced any exact dates just yet.
