Mark Hamill Has a Sexy Theory About Luke Skywalker After 'The Last Jedi'

Lucasfilm

There’s one Jedi out there that refuses to die: Mark Hamill. He’s played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars for 40 years and now he’s got has a theory about how his character might’ve survived The Last Jedi.

Spoiler alert for The Last Jedi, but you knew that already.

At the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday, Mark Hamill offered a theory about how his character could have survived the film rather than using up his life force on an advanced Force technique. During the PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly Red Carpet Live pre-show, Hamill discussed his sexy theory about what happened to Luke after his body disappeared:

“How do you know I just didn’t transport somewhere else?” Hamill said coyly. “All I leave behind is my robes.” He rationalized, “Maybe I transported to a nudist planet.”

He’s been telling just about everybody this silly new theory, including the BBC: “He teleported to a nudist colony, that’s what I’m hoping.”

Mark Hamill, as always, is playing the part of the fun-loving troll for canon-obsessed fans that want to see their hero resurrected.

Whether or not we’re willing to accept Luke’s death, we can’t escape the fact that towards the end of The Last Jedi, he meditated on Ahch-To and sent a more impressive-looking intangible version of himself to Crait. There, he made peace with his sister and confronted his nephew, delaying the First Order long enough to help the Resistance escape. And In one of the film’s final scenes, Luke simply vanishes while watching sunset. He’s totally dead.

But his actual death does look remarkably similar to when Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi also met their end.

So no, Luke almost definitely won’t return in Episode IX stark naked on some planet full of nudists. But it’s totally possible that Mark Hamill might return in the film as some kind of Force ghost cameo. We saw as much even from Yoda in The Last Jedi, and Obi-Wan was an ongoing presence in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Perhaps Luke will return to guide Rey even more?

In the words of Mark Hammil himself: “It could happen…”
