Darth Revan's Story Could Still Become 'Star Wars' Canon

It hasn't been ruled out by any means, according to Pablo Hidalgo.

A throwaway prop featured in The Last Jedi implied that the infamous Darth Revan might once again be part of official Star Wars canon. And if the Lucasfilm Story Group has anything to say about it, then the door is wide open for someone to make it official with a new Star Wars story in the future set thousands of years before A New Hope.

In speaking with Star Wars Show host Andi Gutierrez earlier this January, Pablo Hidalgo from the Lucasfilm Story Group explained the story behind all sorts of props that were in The Last Jedi, especially on Ahch-To, the location of the First Jedi Temple. The Lucasfilm Story Group is in charge of developing the lore behind various props that appeared in the movie and in the accompanying Visual Dictionary.

One of the more interesting items featured in Luke’s hut on Ahch-To is the “Recovered Jedi Crusader Pendant,” that Hidalgo calls a “captured trophy,” adding, “It’s just an interesting prop to suggest that [Luke’s] been out in the galaxy collecting clues and doing research on the history of the Jedi.”

But even Hidalgo admits that there’s so much more untapped potential:

In the discussion, Hidalgo says, “What I’m hoping is to be evocative enough that if somebody wants to pick up that thread and say, “You know what? I bet that’s what this story is,” then we definitely have the avenues and channels to tell those kinds of stories.”

4,000 years before A New Hope the “Jedi Crusaders” were also known as the “Revanchist” because they followed a Jedi named Revan to war against the Mandalorians against the wishes of the Jedi Council. All this is presented in games like Knights of the Old Republic and The Old Republic, both of which were reduced to mere “Legends” when Disney jump-started the Star Wars universe.

Here’s a clear look at the artifact, as featured in The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary:

In Star Wars Legends, the Jedi Crusaders meant only one thing.

As far as the non-canon lore goes, Revan eventually turned to the Dark side and became Darth Revan, taking up a red lightsaber for a time. But when his companion, Darth Malak, betrayed him, that lightsaber was destroyed in a ship-to-ship battle in outer space.

What if the kyber crystal Luke found was that exact crystal?

To use Pablo Hidalgo’s words, this might count as a plot thread that’s “evocative enough that if somebody wants to pick up that thread,” then they totally should as soon as possible.
