'Stranger Things' S2's New "Shadow Monster" Sounds Crazy Scary

Netflix

Mike Wheeler himself (Finn Wolfhard) has said Stranger Things Season 2 is the equivalent of moving from a Coca-Cola to a Red Bull addiction — pretty much the same thing, just that much more intense. The Stranger Things gang spoke with Entertainment Weekly for its October cover story on Wednesday and spilled some fun Season 2 details, one of which hints at what to expect of the new terror from the Upside Down: the “Shadow Monster.”

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) beat down the Demogorgon at the end of Season 1, leading the gang in Hawkins, Indiana, to believe all the bad stuff was behind them. Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), though, knows better; he’s witnessing flashes from the Upside Down and the enormous Shadow Monster first seen in Super Bowl ads for Season 2 plagues his visions.

“It’s all connected to this singular threat, which is tied into this shape that Will sees in the sky,” co-creator Ross Duffer told EW, with his brother and co-creator, Matt, adding that “Each episode is building on the last one. It gets much crazier than it ever got in season 1.”

Also expected in Season 2 are new characters such as Bob (Sean Astin), Max (Sadie Sink), and Billy (Dacre Montgomery), as well as a love interest for Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder).

Let’s hope the Shadow Monster isn’t out to woo Joyce, though; she’s been through enough.

Stranger Things Season 2 premieres on Netflix on October 27.
