A Major Villain Is Coming Back for 'Jessica Jones' Season 2

Netflix

There have been many bad guys in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but few have left an impression like Kilgrave. And now, the Purple Man will make his terrifying comeback to the MCU. Actor David Tennant (Doctor Who) has been confirmed to reprise his role in the upcoming second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix.

On Monday morning, Entertainment Weekly shared one of the first official images from the set of Jessica Jones Season 2. In it, Ritter — without her scarf — is seen standing next to Tennant, wearing a new purple suit and sporting a shorter haircut than he did in the first season.

Details surrounding the return of Kilgrave are predictably scarce, especially given the events that transpired the last time Marvel fans saw Kilgrave. In the Season 1 finale of Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter’s hard-drinking private investigator became immune to Kilgrave’s unbelievable power of mind control, which enabled her to snap his neck and instantly kill him. It was a hard-fought victory for Jones, who not only freed herself but other poor New Yorkers whose lives were ruined by the Purple Man.

But how can Kilgrave return in Season 2? The most likely outcome will be flashbacks, memories, or even hallucinations — Kilgrave was a master of the mind, after all. Less likely but not impossible is a full-blown resurrection. As the MCU has repeatedly demonstrated, not everyone stays dead forever. You can expect the “dead” Elektra to make her comeback as Black Sky later this week when The Defenders premieres on Netflix.
