NASA's 2016 Mixtape Is the Hottest in Science Breakthroughs

Ready to have your eardrums treated? NASA just dropped the hottest mixtape of 2016, just in time for the new year. Rounding off the highlights of the agency’s biggest achievements, the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland has uploaded a video of some of their best work. Set to “Illuminating” by Killer Tracks, the video features a number of photos from the agency, created by Clare Skelly, Jenny Hottle, and Rebecca Roth.
“NASA Goddard’s rewind is just a small sampling of the center’s highlights and memorable moments,” the description reads. “We hope you enjoy looking back over a memorable year of observations, discoveries and milestones!”
Here are some of the achievements that get a name drop:
- OSIRIS-REx, NASA’s first asteroid sampling mission, was launched into space.
- Operation IceBridge, which is measuring Antarctic ice, completed its eighth year.
- A mid-latitude super pressure balloon finished a 46-day test flight, breaking the record.
- The Hubble telescope revealed that the observable universe contains 10 times more galaxies than previously thought.
- NASA’s supercomputers determined how carbon dioxide moves through the atmosphere in a new visualization.
- NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory offered a glimpse into Mercury moving across the sun.
- Scientists were able to map Mars’s field of gravity by measuring how three spacecraft orbits differed, creating a new visualization.
- The James Webb Space Telescope’s optical and science segment was completed.
